Self Harm Distractions * Trigger Warning*

Hello 

This isn't going to be a usual happy blog post but it's important . I've known too many people who self harm for too many different reasons that should never lead them to feeling like it is the only option . I am not a qualified professional and If you are effected by self harm I definitely urge you to go and find professional help to stop,  which I talk a little about at the end of my '100 reasons to live' post which you can find by clicking here . Today I'm not talking about stopping self harm because I believe the main key to that is talking about but today I want to talk about distractions to get you through the night because if you stop yourself every night then eventually that can lead to stopping completely . 


What is Self Harm ?

Self harm ... Demi Lovato really inspires me and she helps me when I feel upset , her music is so relatable .

Self harm is very serious and can take place in many different forms that deliberately cause physical damage to yourself,  including : 

• Cutting or scratching 
• Causing bruises
• Banging their head against a wall
• Pulling out hair
• Burning 
• Falling over 
• Breaking an arm or leg

What self harm isn't : 

  •  Just attention seeking . Maybe it is a cry out for help or maybe it's a secret release, there are so many different reason but if its a cry out for help then they need attention for something and if that is the only way they feel it can be asked for them,  they definitely need help with something . So give them that help . 
  • Something that only happen's to people who are depressed or suffering from any other mental illness. Anyone of anyone age, gender, background or religion can be put in circumstances which may lead to them feeling the need to self harm . However I truly believe that every one of those people can (with a lot of hard work and help) overcome this and get better because I believe in you no matter how bad it's got and regardless of whether you still have any faith in yourself whatsoever. I still believe and will continue to believe in the wonderful person that is YOU . <3
  • Something that self harmer's enjoy or they wouldn't do it. No NO NO No NO NO! Just NO . I'm not even going to comment on this ridiculous myth . If you seriously think that someone enjoys hurting themselves ... I think you need to think that through again because you got confused somewhere . 
Distractions

Okay so I promised distractions so distraction's you will get. Just to remind you this is NOT an alternative to professional help but just to get you through the hour or however long it takes <3 I love you . I've asked people in the Help and Support Boards of the hopeful forum for their in put and some of my friends whom have been affected. Additionally I've done a lot of  Research on as many reliable sites as I could and I will leave links to sites that can help or have useful pages at the end of this post  Also if you have any good distractions or beneficial idea's please feel free to help others as long as you are kind feel free to comment whatever you wish. 

Guy's please don't cut yourself...just remember each scar will remind you why you did it and that causes even more till you can't cut anymore...I love every single one of you guys!♥ and that's coming straight from my heart...I promise!

  • Call Someone. I can't say this enough times because it's so under rated but it's so so beneficial and important . " You Are Not in this Alone"  I have this written on my bedroom wall next to my bed for whenever I'm sad because as humans we tend to convince ourselves that we are alone when we're upset but you are not more alone than you were ten minutes before are you, really ? Call someone, anyone . You have people who love you and care about you . You don't even have to talk to them just call them and cry down the phone for a bit . Whether it's your family, your best friend or childline ( 0800 1111) you can call them . You are never alone . 
  • Punch a pillow . This is a good way of releasing tension if you are angry or worked up . Just make sure what you're hitting is soft so that you wont damage yourself . Hitting a rolled up newspaper on a door frame does a similar thing . 
  • Scream ! Seriously darlin, just get it all out of your system and if people are in the house try screaming into a pillow . 
I'd like this, just much smaller. The semi colon showing when a sentence could have ended but didn't, the butterfly being the symbol of alternatives to self-harm.
  • List the good the good things about yourself. Don't even tell me there isn't any because there are . It's not a bad thing to think about the good things in yourself . Nowadays girls seem to think it's not okay to actually say " Do you know what ? I'm me . I'm okay with that . I am beautiful " ergh society makes me so angry . I might do a blog post about that at some point. But seriously just look at the small things like well your eyes are a really nice shade for starters <3 

    • Have some "me" time. Go run yourself a bath and cuddle up in bed having a Inbetweener's marathon ( or anything you like , but something that might make you smile would be good ) . 
    • Paint your nails. This keeps your hands busy and that can be extremely useful . 
    • Knitting .. you should make a scarf for the winter I know you're still going to be here for <3 
    • Cross stitch , how about you make a cute little cross stitch for the friend who's always there ? Or even just for you because I guarantee you are worth it :)  
    •  Baking, being organised and weighing out the measurements and doing something productive is a good way to start to feel a little more in control .
    • Painting
    • Drawing
    • Playing an instrument, if you can sing or if you can't , go and sing your little heart out until the hurt has gone away . 
    • Writing, you could take all that emotion and turn it into a best selling novel ! Wow it's going to be amazing I can just see it now ;) <3 
    • Clean you're room or organise something . It can help if you feel out of control this can distract you, give you a sense of achievement when you're done as well as  please your carer ;) 
    • Play games ... go kill someone on GTA or Rock out on guitar hero, whatever  takes your fancy aha .
    • Squeezing an Ice cube 
    • Sucking on a Lemon ... For the shock factor . I don't know how well this would work but anything's worth a shot and I guess it makes sense aha ;) 
    • Give every person in all your magazines a moustache 
    • EXERCISE! Exercising is key to calming down and de-stressing and whilst it's de-stressing you you're releasing feel-good endorphins that but you on a natural high making you feel happy :) Now doesn't that sound like a nicer alternative ? <3 
    • Run you're hands under freezing cold water 
    • Counting ceiling lights or tiles to distract you and write them down as you count to keep your hands busy ... and if your hands still need to be busy after that make a graph to show lights in all the different rooms of the house :) Sounds boring but if your hands are busy then it's fantastic :) Just like you <3
    • Write out the lyrics to your favourite song <3 There's a line I like in Pierce The Veil's " Hold On Till May " that says : " If I were you I'd put that away, See you're just wasted thinking bout the past again. Darlin' you'll be okay . " They're right you're going to be okay. Maybe not right now but if you give up now then you're never going to know <3 It's difficult and I understand that but you need to hold out a lil bit longer honey . 
    • Learn to swear in another language because that's clearly a talent you need to have far more than that mark which you don't <3 Trust me . 
    • Memorise a poem with meaning .
    • Feel your pulse to remind yourself that you're alive and that's pretty damn awesome (( <3 ))
    • Make a notebook of your favourite quotes that help you ... PINTEREST TIME ! :D 
    • Make yourself a safe place whether its some beanbags with blankets in your room or you've added nine pillows and every cuddly toy you own to your bed just make it cosy and lovely and put a book or your laptop next to it whichever you like . Now go take a freezing cold shower ... I know I'm sorry if it's a bit chilly but try . Once your out the shower pop your nicest fresh PyJama's on and climb in to your cosy place and notice how warm and safe it feels in comparison then watch YouTube, Read all of the Harry Potter books or Catch up on every episode of The Great British Bake Of ( WOO ) whatever makes you feel all snugly inside and do it all night . Just have sometime for you to be calm ... and add a Milky way , that's what I give myself when I having some calm time ;) <3
    • Bake ! I'm sure it will be yummy :) Maybe you'll be in the next series of bake off.. wow that would be so cool, yeah you should definitely bake :) 
    • Listen to music ! This is the most common method , please comment songs that help you <3 
    • Get a Wreck This Journal ... and wreck it ;) 
    • Brose Amazon and Ebay .. Kit out your whole future house with your imaginary unlimited budget :) 
    • Write a letter to brighten someone else's day ... maybe even a stranger and you could just leave it in a cafe ? <3

    These are just a few alternatives ! There are loads and you can do all of them . I Know you can . I want you to know that even if it feels unbearable .. it isn't  . You can hold out and get through this and there doesn't need to be a mark on yourself to show you felt like that . If you need help ( which you do if you feel the need to hurt yourself ) please, please ask for it . It's out there and available to you and yes it might be scary to ask but you need to honey and it's always better than suffering alone . You just need to stay strong because you are a fighter and don't you dare under estimate yourself because if you think that you can't do it , 1) You're going to trick yourself into believing that . and 2 ) If someone else told you that you we're too weak to do something would you listen to them or prove them wrong ? Self belief is important and you should believe in yourself .. because I believe in you and I don't just believe in anyone , You're special .  If you do mess up , try again . When you were a kid you didn't just magically stand up and be able to walk perfectly did you ? But when you fell down you got up and look at you now . A beautiful , wonderful strong example of a human being ... wow :o <3 You're amazing .

    When Offering Your Pinkie ...

    Hello , 

    I don't really know what this is, I wrote most of this on a car journey I'm not entirely sure why but these are the thoughts in my head that I have named " When Offering Your Pinkie" . I have recently realised that there is next to no support for people who support their friends through mental illnesses. This is wrong . There needs to be support in place for the friends of people with mental illnesses because "One in ten children between the ages of one and 15 has a mental health disorder." (The Office for National Statistics Mental health in children and young people in Great Britain, 2005) It's fairly likely that a lot of these people have friends who try to help and do an excellent job but it angers me that those friends are not also given support . What do you think ? Anyways I don't really know what spurred me to write this . But I hope you are well and here are the words my mind gave me when trying to piece together the support that I believe is needed for both sufferers of mental health issues and their friends . 


    Don't just walk away . 
    Offer them your pinkie and say ;
    " I wont let go if you won't " <3 
    If they go to sleep purely to escape the bitter sadness; 
    Send a text saying ; 
    " I love you " 
    So at least their day can start with a smile :) 
    Never let them forget ; 
    " You are NOT in this alone " 
    They arn't and neither are you <3 
    Don't forget to mention that , 
    " It's going to be okay very soon " 
    The tomorrow they need might be tomorrow ... 
    If they give up they'll never know . 
    Are they feeling weak ? 
    Like there body can't support the weight of there mind ? 
    leave a note in their bag saying ; 
    " Stay Strong Beautiful " 
    The strength is still there. 
    People lose sight of their strength in the darkness. 
    Just because you can't see something, it doesn't mean its not there . 
    Light a match over their strength for them <3 
    If they can't get out of bed then pull them out , 
    Do their hair and tell them to put on their best clothes . Say ; 
    " Everyday is special .. just like you " 
    When they cry ? Let them . 
    Let them cry and don't move until they're done . 
    Then fetch them chocolate and say : 
    " You're worth the world but I only had a piece of chocolate ... 
    but it's good, like you " 
    Ask questions ! But listen to answers . 
    Don't tell them their problems arn't bad enough . 
    Listen before they are <3 Let them know ; 
    " Everything about you is always worth my time " 
    If they ask for help ? Get it ! 
    Don't question it . Say ; 
    " Okay , we'll find a way "  

    But if their pinkie starts to slip from yours , 
    Grab them with both hands and yell for help . 
    Tell them ;
    " You're not going anywhere." 
    Never make them feel bad for needing your pinkie . 

    However don't fall with them . 
    The weight of their mind might just pull you over as you reach out to save them . 
    If they drop then don't follow . 
    It's not your fault, never is your fault and never will be . 
    Watching over a friend , Keeping them safe , 
    You're trying your hardest . I see that darling <3 
    And let me just tell you now that you are doing so, so wonderfully ! 
    You are so enough , I promise . 
    I promise to both of you that you are enough . 
    But YOU ; the friend that offers their pinkie . 
    You are just like them; 
    You're both the strong ones ! 
    You're amazing <3 
    And you know what ?

I know it's hard and you feel like you're losing your strength in the darkness because you held out your match for them but I'm telling you I can still see it <3 I have never thought of a kinder soul but you . Stay strong beautiful,  remember you're worth it too! Every day is special, just like you . You're worth the world but I can only give you my word but I promise it's good, rather like you . You're being so generous , handing out you're heart , what a wonderful thing but don't forget your where you starts  ! Don't lose sight of yourself because I guarantee that everything about you is worth my time <3 Okay ? We'll find a way . You're not going anywhere <3 "

    #100happydays : Day 100 ( WE MADE IT ! :D )

    Heyyy :) 

    So the final day of my #100happydays challenge is here and I have to say that today's #100happydays is that I've finished the challenge :) Not because I didn't like doing it because I really did but It's e always nice to finish things and accomplish them when you thought you might give up or someone else told you not to bother because "there isn't a point " . There is a point and the point is it matters to you and YOU are important and deserve recognition by yourself as a person who requires the same amount of love and kindness from yourself as other people do . You are as important as everyone else and you should do what makes you happy because at the end of the day you want to sit there counting the moments that made you smile and where you felt good about yourself, your world and your life . You deserve that . <3 

    I believe in you and if you want to do something , no matter what it is ; from climbing mount Everast, to becoming a successful actress to saying something that's difficult or seems scary . Yes it might look tedious, terrifying , risky and ridiculously optimistic to even suggest you could do such a thing but I promise you can <3 Prove them all wrong ! Every single one and make them shocked make them confused at where you found the courage to do something when they didn't tell you had the ability to.  I can tell you where you found that courage . IN YOU . Because you are an amazing, wonderful, complex, intelligent and above all kind , human being and you can do anything you put your mind to however big or small . I believe in you and I say that over and over in so many of my blogs but it doesn't matter because the only person who really needs to believe in you is you :) I know you can do it and you need to let yourself know that you can do it because you're getting confused, bewildered by society's expectations and limitations that don't have to be so because you are an individual with your own hopes, your own dreams and your own potential .

    I didn't think I could start a blog and commit to writing regularly but I wanted to and I love writing so I did . I managed it , I talked about a hundred days of my life and It might seem small but I'm pretty proud of that and I'm going to continue because I have so many words inside me that I want to be heard and this is my way of saying them . A lot of days the need to sleep, the frustration when i'd spent two hours writing and accidentally deleted the whole thing , thing stress of finding only happy things to say after an awful day ...yes that would almost over ride the fact that writing made me happy and yes i'd be thinking if I stopped writing it would matter and I've been told that but it matters to me . And I like you am a human being and we all matter and if something makes you happy oh my gosh do it ! Don't let it bring you down though, if you need a break have a break if you want to do something else do it ! As long as you're happy  But don't ever stop because you've had a bad day or someone has said it doesn't matter .

    Back to School :)

    Heyyy :)

    Who better than a bit of Dr.zeus  for today's
    quote of the day 
    So September is here and a lot of young people are heading back to school and the work load looks awful, the drama, stress and teachers that hate you for no reason but do you know what makes it okay ? STATIONARY :D  Going into the new academic year I have kitted myself out with all the stationary I could ever need and am really happy with it :) and you know what ? I think that makes it just about bearable :) Even if I probably will have nothing but a pen that I borrowed off a friend and half a packet of gum to my name within a week ;) I am actually looking forward to the new year . Fresh starts, a chance to work hard, focus and do well because I believe if you go to school with a negative attitude grumbling about wishing you were still in bed, how much you hate school and how much you are bored in every single lesson and just want to curl up into a little ball and sleep behind the stage when your head teacher is attempting to motivate the school in the first assembly of the year whilst looking like he wished he was in a private jet getting away from here as quick as possible ..and trust me we all feel this way. But you are not going to do well if you refuse to make the best of the situation . So buckle down and do your best with a smile on your face and a highlighter in your hand :) If you get to school and end up with 50 million pieces of homework due in on Thursday with  no exceptions .. well you might as well make a list ... no ! A colour coded list :D Already things feel better because you're adding colour and making it accessible and when you plan out your work because you're going to have to do it in the end, so you might as well do it now. you will feel so much better about it knowing what you are doing . How about you make yourself a little work space and buy folders for each subject, look up for cool ways to decorate them on YouTube and make a decision to work your very hardest this year :) Because I don't care if your top in the class or bottom, there is no reason why you can't prove everyone wrong and do AMAZING because that's what you are, amazing and I reckon that this could be your year to show that to the world <3

     You can get through anything and become anything . You CAN prove them wrong it's going to feel great when you stand up and say " I did this " and if it doesn't work out well at least you can say "I tried this " Which is a lot better than regretting the smug look on the face of a person person who thought you couldn't do everything and anything because I see the fire in your eyes behind the fear of not getting there because I know you can do anything if only you believe in you <3 Why wouldn't you ? I do :)

    #100happydays: day 39 ( Want to do something ? choose to do it then. )

    Good Afternoon :) 
     
    I'm sorry I'm late again and yes all three that I will be posting tonight will be late because it's exhausting writing this often but I love writing and I'm determined to at least try to make people happy ... even if it means no sleep for another 61 more days aha :) 

    Todays #100happydays is a picture of my badly painted, bitten down looking nails and a bottle of nail varnish :) Before you ask ; No I definitely under no circumstance have enough money to paint my nails with Leighton Denny nail polish... It's my mums but I just love the colour :) If yourself wanting a new nail polish for summer and have money ( who knows? it might be your birthday or something :) If it is HAPPY BIRTHDAY ! :D *Party Poppers* ) This Nail polish is called "3 Times a Lady" I really like the pretty, summery, light pink colour and have been looking for the perfect pastel colour for a while now and I think I've finally found it with this nail varnish and I would definitely recommend it to anyone :) If you have found any nice summery nail varnishes, feel free to write them in the comments and I will have a look <3 I love painting my nails and am always on the look out for nice new colours :) 

    The reason I was painting my quite frankly, appalling excuses for nails is that I have decided to stop biting them and try and get them to a nice length over the summer holidays :) I truly envy people with nice nails because you can do so much with them and some of the nail art is amazing <3 I'm not going to lie though... this wouldn't be the first time that I've attempted to stop biting my nails but this time, I promise you there's a difference :) Before I said I want to stop biting my nails because I want nice, attractive nails . This time I'm saying , I'm going to get nice attractive nails so I'm going to stop biting them . No excuses. Just doing it and that is exactly what I intend to do :) I think there is a massive difference between saying I want to stop something or achieve something and caring but not really being bothered enough to try past the whole " well I want to do it and I don't really want to commit to not doing it because that sounds scary and means I have to feel bad if I mess up stage sooooo .... I'll just start tomorrow " stage . You will not follow this up by starting tomorrow ... trust me on that one aha . Whether it's a massive move that you're making like getting out of depression or something tiny that will make you happier like stopping biting your nails you have to be firm with yourself and actually do things to get to your goal that will benefit your aim and your future <3 There are so many ways to keep yourself motivated you just have to find the one that suits you such as getting an app on your phone with reminders or keeping a picture of that dream dress you want to fit into in your purse . But one things for sure , you have to try and it's going to be difficult .... but it's also going to be so worth it :) You can do it, because you're amazing, I know you can do it <3 It all starts with saying " I'm going to" there's no need to put it off till tomorrow because you never know how many tomorrow's you will get :) Please try <3

    #100happydays: day 33 ( A letter to the heart )

    Hellooo :)

    Once again I'm behind and this post is a day late ... sorry about that :) Both of today's posts will be short because I've been to a funeral today ( cheerful I know ) and I have a long list of things I haven't done that kind of really needs doing :) I also said in #100happydays: day 32 ( Music; a remedy for all ) that I would do a June Favourites blog post that night and I did however my computer for some unknown reason will not let me post it so when I get home I will try again on my own laptop and get that up as soon as possible :) 

    Today I had an argument and was pretty upset. I didn't know how to get my point across because I felt like I couldn't say anything that would be listened to ( basically we were too alike with strong minds and different opinions that neither of us wanted to change ) So the first thing that made me happy was a tree ... okay I know that's weird but for some reason I managed to get it into my head that the trees leaves looked a bit like a turtle that was sat in the tree dancing aha It sounds ridiculous and it was ... I think that's why it made me giggle :) I have found that laughter ( even when it's forced ) can cure a lot in the way of sadness so next time you're sad try forcing a laugh and then laugh at you're laugh and then laugh at how you're laughing at yourself ... why are you laughing at yourself you numpty ? ;) It sounds crazy but it might just work , anything's worth at least a couple of tries :) I then decided to use my new letter writing set ( wooo new stationary is literally the best thing eveeeeerrr :D ) to write a letter explaining how I felt , how I wanted to feel , how I thought that we could move forward to make us both feel better and stop the argument from happening again . When I give it to them I hope it might make things clearer and rule out any problems because who wants to be sad all the time ... I don't , I really really don't :) Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and try to fix things as best as you can because I'd personally rather be happy than right ( although I am still rather fond of being right ;) ) So next time you have an argument or mess up and can't see a way out , write it down . Write every last detail of how you feel because you are amazing and deserve to feel happy and the other person is amazing and deserves to be happy . I recently read in my book One Million Lovely letters something that really made me think and reconsider how I and so many other people I know see the world , the people in it and the kindness that these people deserve however Jodi Ann Bickley said this :
    "Were told it's a flaw to wear your heart on your sleeve, but I don't agree. Being honest and kind isn't something anyone needs to fight against. I don't need to 'toughen up' or 'stand up for myself more', as I've been told in the past. Wear your heart on your sleeve, you put yourself out to receive love but someone can just as easily more salt into your heart. It's a fine risk to take because when you are honest and people really see you for you, that's when you find true happiness and true friends. Whoever said kindness kindness should be earned is wrong. A kick in the shins is earned - kindness is not" 
    Please read that , re-read that and think about it ... It changed my thought process forever and I think if the whole world saw life like this it would just be a way nicer place and everyone would be more smiley .. and smiling's good ;)
